Ramazan: The Month of Blessing and Mercy

The Muslims divide their months according to the lunar calendar. Ramadan is the 9th month in the lunar year and it is during this month that healthy Muslim adults observe fasting during the daylight hours. Muslim fasting is a total abstention from eating, drinking, and sexual relations from dawn to dusk for 29 or 30 days of the month of Ramadan. (There can only be 29 or 30 days in a given lunar month). Apart from abstinence, avoiding immoral behaviour and anger and showing compassion are all part of the requirements of the fasting faithful.

Around 1.6 billion people of the seven billion in the world will be fasting from sunrise to dawn. The good that is acquired through the fast can be destroyed by - the telling of a lie, slander, denouncing someone behind his back, a false oath, greed, or covetousness. These are always considered offensive but are most offensive during the Fast of Ramadan. Thus, one of the objectives of this month for a Muslim is to purify himself/herself from ill characteristics that are within one. A spiritual cleansing through a physical action.

Food is part of Ramadan’s traditions; family and friends gather to share and enjoy the two meals that are served: Iftar celebrated at sunset when Muslims break their fast, and Suhoor consumed early in the morning before the day starts. Fasting has an important role in teaching patience, compassion, and gratitude. It also reminds people about those suffering from poverty and hunger.

A traditional Iftar menu includes a variety of dishes. But whether an Iftar is simple or big, sharing food with the needy during this holy month is an important aspect of the feast and Muslims are encouraged to help the poor.

At the end of the day, family members gather around Iftar table and wait for the Maghreb Adhan that marks the end of the fast.

Muslims break their fast by eating 1 or 3 dates as was the practice of Prophet Mohammed who broke his fast with three dates and water. From a nutritional point of view, dates are an excellent source of fibers, natural sugar, iron, and magnesium. They help restoring blood sugar after long hours of fasting.

Narrated Abdullah ibn Amr ibn al-'As: Mujahid said that Abdullah ibn Amr slaughtered a sheep and said: Have you presented a gift from it to my neighbour, the Jew, for I heard the Apostle of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: Gabriel kept on commending the neighbour to me so that I thought he would make an heir? (Abu Dawud).

The Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H) said: "He is not a believer who eats his fill while his neighbour remains hungry by his side" (Baihaqi).

"By Allah, he has no faith (the Prophet repeated it three times) whose neighbours are not safe from his wickedness" (Bukhari).

Ramadan is a great opportunity to share Islam and more specifically, its values of spirituality, generosity, and kindness with others, especially your neighbours.

included dates, the traditional food that breaks the Ramadan fast, chicken, rice and fruits.

Act of Kindness

Iftaar meals are distributed among the neighbours, relatives and friends while at markets, preparation for iftar starts after the Asr prayers as shops adorn themselves with a variety of dishes.

St. Fulin Group arranged aftaar meal at Islamabad, Pakistan Office and distributed to the neighbours and the people among them and the security guards. The aftaar meal box include Juice, Rice, Seasonal fruits, Dates, Fried Chicken.

The boxes were also distributed among the labour, police men on duty and unprivileged ones. This activity was initiated at St. Fulin Group Islamabad F8 Pakistan Office. This activity was conducted to show our love to our Muslim brothers and sisters and too show our love, respect, and solidarity. Following the traditions of Ramadan.
